Investigator's Field Report

Biography
Annie Edson Taylor (1838-1921) was the first person to survive a descent over the Horseshoe Falls.  Her stunt took place on October 24, 1901, with her descent over the falls in a specially made oak barrel. Though she had hoped that the achievement would gain her fame and financial security, her fame was fleeting and she died in poverty in 1921.
